Personal development plan example from one busy mom to another!
Motherhood brings you and I so much joy. Everywhere we turn, there are lots of things to be grateful for. But let’s be honest, it also brings in some of the not so good stuff. The stress, the overwhelm, the doubt, the loss of pre-mom self, mom guilt and quite honestly the busyness that comes along with motherhood doesn’t always bring out the best in you, am I right?
I’ve been on quite the journey over the last few years and while I hate that I experienced some of the negative things that come with motherhood, I am really grateful that I didn’t just live there in the overwhelm.
I lifted my head out of the sand and recognized that nothing was actually wrong with me. I was just at a spot in life where I needed to evolve and redefine success in the chapter of life I was in.
If this sounds familiar, you are in luck because now comes the fun part!
I am going to walk you through how to do this so you can go out and live YOUR BEST LIFE!
I’ll also give you a personal development plan example to help get you started on your own journey!
What Really Is “Personal Development”?
With access to social media these days, it might be easy to think that reading those inspiring quotes that are constantly being posted means you are getting personal development. The only problem with that plan is it is a very passive way to personal development, and it isn’t going to yield you the results you need.
The best way I can explain personal development is that it is really about continuing to evolve into the best version of yourself despite what life throws your way.
So, from this moment forward I want you to start thinking of personal development as the absolute best investment of your life.
Because there is no better person to invest in than yourself.
And I want to help you live your BEST life; the life God designed you to live!
How to Make A Personal Development Plan
Making a personal development plan might sound intimidating but it doesn’t need to be. I’m a big fan of progress over perfection and think it is more important to get yourself started than to stall getting started while you search for perfect.
Here are 5 SIMPLE steps to get you started (the next section has a personal development plan example):
First, set a vision for your life.
Pick a handful of important goals.
Make them measurable.
Develop a plan to help you close the gap between now and where you want to be.
Schedule regular check ins with yourself to evaluate your progress.
Personal Development Plan Example For Moms
Here are few things off of my ever-evolving personal development plan! I didn’t want to bore you with all the details for each one but I’ve given you a jump start to what it could look like for your own personal development plan examples and then you just need to measure them and set up the path to work towards it!
1. Practice gratitude
As a mom, you want nothing more in life than to make sure your children are happy and healthy. Teaching your children how to practice gratitude is a great way to start! Every night we go around as a family sharing what we are thankful from that day. It is easy to say I’m happy for a house, but it is even more important to look for good in each day, so I challenge you to start this today.
2. Develop a positive mindset
One of my favorite personal development plan example I hope every one of you that are reading this takes to heart, is putting steps into place to develop a positive mindset.
I’m not talking about just being half-glass full or being optimistic. I want you to put effort into understanding how the brain works. Once you start learning that a grumpy attitude is just really a prolonged refractory period and you can do something like listen to music, get up and go on a walk or jump up and down to get the refractory period to shorten, you will be AMAZED at how much better you feel. Not to mention, less overwhelming!! (this trick is how I manage toddler tantrums in my house).
3. Learn 4 new things this year.
I think this is an important personal development plan example because it demonstrates that you don’t need to have things perfectly worked out. Set a goal to learn 2 things or 10 things, that can be up to you!
I would bet money that there are a few things you want to do/try/learn/pick back up and you’ve been putting them off. So, make a goal around it and it will help hold your accountable! One of the things I want to do this year is ride a horse. I want to learn the basics of riding a horse and it is sort of silly and simple, but it is something I want to do and it is on my plan to help me make sure I do it!
And don’t forget, if you decide my personal development plan example works for you and you want to try it, by accomplishing the second item on this list you automatically have 1 of your 4 new things!
4. Become An Early Riser
I know, I know! You are probably cringing when I tell you to wake up earlier. I had the same reaction for most of my life but shortly after I became a mom of two, I recognized that golden hour would be an answer to my prayers!
All I can say from my personal experience of once being a snooze button x10 to waking up an hour earlier is that it is 100% worth it. This is where you will find the time for self-care.
Learn more about how to find this time by reading how to find time for self-care as a working mom.
5. Leave Work At The Office
I love my career and I am in a leadership role, so the work never stops, unless you establish boundaries with yourself. Leaving work at the office also means try and limit the conversations you have about work with your spouse too.
No need to let work steal the precious time you have with your family!
How to Get Started With Your Plan
The personal development plan example listed above is just a part of the personal goals I’ve had over the last 12-18 months. As a working mom, I’ve really focused on ensuring I’m working on the foundation, building up what I need to for long lasting change, not just chasing things that don’t matter.
Getting to the core of personal development, really understanding the why in your struggles is a HUGE part of this.
The first step to working on your plan is prioritizing time to do it.
Take the time you need to establish your own personal development plan! A quick hour at the coffee shop by yourself goes a long way 😊.
Then, just follow the 5 simple steps I outlined above! Write out a vision for your life before you start outlining measurable goals because it is much easier to know what goals to pick when you’ve defined what you want your life to look like.
Between personal development, learning better time management skills as a working mom and building your confidence, you are going to be unstoppable!
Alright Mama, time to go get your goals on!!

Don’t forget to PIN!
