One of the strategies that will help you achieve the goals in life that you have floating around your mind but haven’t put much action behind yet is by creating a vision board!
And before you start thinking that you’re back in your kindergarten class with glitter glue and the fun scissors that have different cut lines, I assure you there are many different vision board ideas and we are going to cover them today!
What’s a Vision Board?
Simply put, a vision board will help you bring clarity to your goals in life.
A vision board can help you achieve your goals in life because it is a visual indicator of the goals, which in return helps you bring focus on these goals.

Some might consider creating a vision board to be the same as a dream board or a wish board, and while there are a lot of similarities, I’ve used a vision board to be more intentional about putting action behind the things I would put on a wish board or a dream board, so whatever you choose to call it, just know that the point is creating a vision that you want for your life and then putting action behind it.
Do Vision Boards Work?
Did you know that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down?
A vision board helps to bring clarity to your goals and the practice of writing them down already puts you at a higher chance of achieving your goals!
It is very important to also remember that a vision board isn’t just intended to be a fun activity and then shove it in your closet the rest of the year. Magazine clippings of traveling the world or your dream home only works if you do!

3 Vision Board Ideas
Long gone are the days where a vision board just has to live on a poster board, but there is certainly nothing wrong if you still want to go that route, but if you want to explore other options, here are 3 vision board ideas to help you decide which one is right for you!
I’ve dabbled in all 3 and I have felt like each of the vision board ideas above have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals in life!
1. Digital Vision Board
Personally, while there are a lot of great vision board app out there if you want to make a digital vision board, however I still prefer pen to paper and being able to create it with my hands so I tend to use that option the least. I do however put a picture of my vision board as my background on my phone so I can see it often throughout the day.
A quick google search of digital vision board will show you several great options.
2. Classic Approach
Vision board on paper/poster board is what you are most likely familiar with and may remind you of your childhood memories with the big art container!

This always has been, and probably always will be my favorite option when it comes to which of the vision board ideas I suggest to other people who are trying to work on their goals in life.
3. Shortest Approach
Vision board on a mirror is a great in between option if you aren’t ready to go full technology but don’t want to deal with art supplies.
I currently have a massive vision board written all over my side of the master bathroom mirror.
I have my affirmation statement regarding my goals for my career, a few key pictures that represent a major feeling I had and want to continue to work towards more of those feelings and I have 6 manifestation of my goals that I want to achieve to support my major goal.
I wrote all of that out with a dry erase marker!!! And I just hung up the pictures with tap.
Takes a total of 3 minutes and the marker wipes off super easily so no worries there.

How To Create A Vision Board, The Classic Way!
Because I think all people should start with the 2nd of the vision board ideas listed above, and I think it is the most fun for beginner vision board creators, I’m going to walk you through how to create a vision board the classic way.
In general terms, here are the basic steps to create a vision board:
- Pick the method you want to create your vision board ( mirror, classic way, online vision board)
- Gather necessary supplies (art supplies, paper, magazines, pictures of inspiration, vision board quotes you want to use etc.)
- Get to work putting it together
- Place it some place you can look at it often
The Really Important Things No One Tells You About

-Pick a space that makes you feel comfortable. For me that means I have to be in a clean and quiet room to think! I can’t simply start this process on the kitchen island if the kitchen is in shambles or when I have my family home and can hear them playing in the other room.
-Answer these questions:
1.What do I want to gain from my vision board?
2.Why am I creating this vision board now?
How do I want to feel when I’ve completed my vision board?
How do I want to feel when I’ve accomplished the goals depicted on my vision board?
What words come to light when you think about you as your goal accomplished-self?
When I wake up in 30 years, will I feel happy with what is on my board or will I feel like I left something on the table?
-A plan to make your goals come to life
Well done, to this point you’ve answered some tough questions! These questions will help propel you into obtaining your goals. There is a certain level of excited nervousness that occurs after we allow ourselves to start dreaming again!
And now we need to make sure you put in a plan to help you get your vision board goals into action! I prefer to follow the Power of 3strategy to stay focused on doing the key things to help me achieve my goals each and every day.
If you fee like you have no idea how you are going to even get started taking action on these goals that you’ve now taken from your heart and put down on paper, don’t be discouraged!
You just need to start making some simple tweaks to your day to help you realign your priorities and find time to help you.

-A plan to integrate it into your daily routine
A beautifully crafted and well intended vision board will do little to nothing for you if you shove it in the back of your closet. Yes, the activity of the questions I listed above will help you get your mind moving in the right direction you need for clarity on your goals and that exercise alone will help you but putting you vision board in a spot where you can check in on yourself is golden!
Which is why a bathroom mirror or a refrigerator are the 2 spots I’ve found the most success in with regards to where to put the vision board so you can see it daily.
A quick 45 second review of the goals and a check in with yourself to see if you’ve been able to put action towards your goals that day will help you achieve the goals in life you have made because while spending the 45 seconds seems pretty short, you are actually putting your subconscious mind to work.
The vision board (often called a dream board too) and daily check in will allow your subconscious mind to start seeing the future goals as it’s new reality!
Vision Board Examples
Determining how to create a vision board from this point is a bit up to you in the sense that you can outline it however you want but I know that vision board examples are super helpful to get your creative juices flowing!
You can place words of affirmation at the top and inspirational pictures on the bottom.

You can hand draw your goals or find pictures that best represent what you want for your goals in life.
You can develop a personal mantra and put that on there or you could go with less inspirational-woo-woo and more practical approach and just list out your top 3, whatever makes sense to you is the right option!

13 Things To Put On Your Board
No matter which of the 3 vision board ideas you went with, these 13 types of categories can be applied to your vision board to help make it an accurate representation of who you are and the goals you have for your life!

You don’t necessarily want to spread all of them into your vision board because your vision board (aka dream board) should be focused on specific goals so keep that in mind as you start to paint a picture of your future self!
- Words of affirmation / Daily positive affirmations / Positive affirmations for success
- Self development quotes
- Personal development goals and/or Professional development goals
- Create a theme or tagline (mine is Career to Calling)
- Pictures of when you have been the most happy
- Pictures of accomplishments that you want more of in the future
- Your favorite places and/or dream places to travel more of in life
- Words that you want other people to think of when they meet you
- Mom goals- is there an intentional parenting word you are trying to improve on in your life?
- Single words that bring you joy, describe who you want to be or values you represent
- People you admire
- How you want to feel physically, spiritually and professionally
- Power words
