I know seeing personal goal examples are super helpful when you are looking to create your own list of goals and dreams, so I pulled together a little list of 23 of my own personal goal examples to help give you a jump start!
You’ll notice that my personal goal examples align with two categories:
Nurturing your life
Growing in faith
The more I aligned my personal development goals alongside my need to increase my faith, the more peace and progress I have found. Growing yourself comes best when you open up your heart to where Jesus needs you to grow.
I appreciate smaller goals now and see how critical they are in building up a strong foundation that will help you step towards the ‘bigger’ goals and dreams you have on your heart.
You’ll find that these 23 personal goal examples all fall into the smaller goal bucket but they can have major impact on your mind, body and soul!
I personally addressed these personal goals examples over an entire year span but you can choose to tackle a few at a time or you can make a plan and tackle one new personal development goal every few weeks if you want to keep yourself more focused on one improvement at a time.
So, here are 23 personal goal examples to give you a jump start on your journey!
Personal Goal Examples
How to Nurture Your Life
The way we feel is such an important, and often underestimated (myself included…) part of being your best self.
What we put into our bodies and our minds can have a huge impact on our energy levels and our mindset. This section will give you lots of attainable steps that will better prepare you to achieve all of your goals and dreams!
1.Cut out social media one day each week
If you haven’t already, download an app on your smartphone that tracks your screen time. It is pretty astounding how many times we pick up our phone and waste time throughout the day. Your first personal goals example is challenging you to cut out all of social media for a full day each week.
Call it no-social media-Sundays and set that phone in a drawer and don’t check it all day!
2.Read 10 pages before bed each night
Learning to trade out the TV for either productive activities or activities that nourished the mind, body or soul has been instrumental in helping me trade out the “I don’t have time” feeling and it will help you too.
Grab yourself a new book and commit to reading 10 pages before bed each night and skip right over the late-night TV binge watching.
3.Stop multitasking
Turns out multitasking is the death of productivity! We convince ourselves because we are addressing multiple things at once that we are being productive but in all reality, we are stretching out attention too thin and giving each task less than the 100% it deserves.

Multitasking doesn’t have to be just in the big things either. Think about how many times you check your phone while you are trying to complete a work task or how many tabs you have open on your phone or computer.
Often times progress is made in the small, day to day things and this personal goal examples is going to help you increase your productivity big time!
4.Try something new
When is the last time you tried something new?
I’ve come to realize after lots of reading and conversations with adults that we really do not like to be pushed outside of our comfort zones and trying something new is a sure way to get uncomfortable so we simply stick to our routines and put new stuff off.
A new hobby, a new skill, learning to cook something totally new or joining that pottery class you’ve always wanted to do but have always been too nervous is officially at the top of your list now!
Make sure that you don’t skip over including this into your own list of personal goals examples and make sure and try and convince your spouse or a girlfriend to tag along with you to make it even more fun!
5.Create a self-care plan
How do you practice self care?
Create a list of the 5 best self care practices for you and hang it on your bathroom mirror so you don’t forget each day to try and fit one in!
For me, an hour spent at my favorite coffee shop on a Saturday morning fills my cup!
6.Change from to-do lists to a priority list
Chances are you have somewhere between 100 and 200 things going on at any given time.
It is super easy to become distracted to the commitments and requests of our time so I encourage you to identify your real priorities for this season of life. Doing this will help you learn to say no, and not feel one ounce of guilt for it!
I follow this weekly look ahead planner to keep my priorities straight and my time aligned.

7.Walk after a meal
You can start this personal goal examples tonight! Start walking for 15minutes after a meal, each day. I love to take a short family walk after dinner which helps me digest and I’ve also found that it gives me a boost of energy in the evenings.
8.Drink more water
While the daily water requirement is different for each of us depending on our level of physical activity, BMI etc., odds are most people need to drink more water!
I’ve made it a new daily habit to drink an entire 16 ounces before I have my first sip of coffee. Filling up my stainless steel water container with ice water before bed each night has been a major contributor to helping me be successful in drinking more water each day.
I set it on my nightstand and then it is ready to go (often still cold with ice) when I wake up in the morning!9
9.Leave your phone at home for the day
If you want to live a life with a nourished mind, you need to create better boundaries with your phone.
I know I had to, and it wasn’t easy in the beginning! But it sure has paid off because I don’t feel like a slave to my phone anymore-constantly wondering where it is, keeping it within arm’s reach etc.
In fact, today we left to run errands for about 5 hours and I didn’t even bring my phone. Not having the distraction keeps me more intentional and present to spend time with those I am with.
If you can’t possibly see how you could go without your phone for an entire day, try half a day!
10.Eat veggies for breakfast

This might be a part of your daily routine already but it sure wasn’t for mine. In fact, when I set out to eat more veggies I couldn’t even come up with what veggies I could include in breakfast and then I realized I could add a handful of spinach to my eggs and boom!
Another thing to add to my list of personal goal examples!
11.Develop a morning routine
Also something I never really thought I could do: become a morning person.
Seriously my goal in life was to be a morning person but I spent many years never feeling like it was possible.
Turns out the morning time is like the magic hour at Disneyland- you know the extra hour you can get into the park before the general public. You basically walk right onto rides and it is still quiet and peaceful.
Learning to wake up an hour earlier has become my own real life magic hour. The trick to becoming a morning person is to make sure you are going to bed at a decent time.
How to Grow in Faith
As I mentioned above, I am a serial goals and dreams kind of gal but the more I become intentional with how to grow in faith, the more I was able to move through the typical challenges that setting goals can bring you with more grace and self confidence.
I really worked hard to make sure that I wasn’t setting goals for my own selfish desires but to align my goals with where God wanted my time to be, and I pray that your heart opens up to that same alignment!
12.Start a prayer journal
Prayer journaling was in fact one of the first things I did to increase my faith and develop a stronger relationship with God, and don’t worry it is much simpler than most people think!
Head over to How to Start a Prayer Journal to learn just how easy it really is!

13.Do random acts of kindness
Simply put, Jesus wants us to love people.
Random acts of kindness definitely pairs well with loving people-
Mow your neighbors lawn, write a handwritten note to a friend, leave an extra big tip, buy a stranger a coffee, open a door for a stranger.
There are so many simple ways to express kindness each and every day. Learning to put others before ourselves will help you grow your faith, it’s a beautiful thing!
14.Read a new verse each day
What we put into our mind is so important, make sure it is good!
Read a new verse each day and spend some time thinking about the message in that verse. The more we familiarize ourselves with His word, the less we will need to ask ourselves how to increase my faith because we will be constantly feeding out faith with His word!
15.Reach out to a friend, family member or co-worker that is having a hard time
Listening is far more valuable than offering advice.
Reach out to a friend and see how you can serve them this week!
16.Start a gratitude journal
Gratitude journaling is a great way to remind yourself each day that God has not left your side and there is good to be found in every day, even the hard days.
Check out these 29 Gratitude Journal Prompts to help you get started!
17.Volunteer
Honestly, my own path to increase my faith has shown me that the less I focus on myself (including my own goals and dreams) and focus on serving others, the less worry, self-doubt and anxiety I have.
Volunteering is one of the many ways you can serve others.
18.Learn to be still
Learn to be still so you can hear what He is trying to tell you. I spent many days being so focused on trying to figure things out that I’m pretty sure I missed very clear messages from Him.
Learning to be still (honestly, I think this will be on my personal development goals list for a long time) helps me remember that it isn’t my job to take on responsibility that I have been known to try and take on.. that I need to remember the message in Psalm: “be still and know that I am God”.

It may feel counterintuitive in the beginning (trust me!) to shut-er down and be still when your mind wants you to go through the million things you need to get down, put action behind anything just to get that instant gratification of crossing things off the to do list but be still, close your eyes and try and take control of your thoughts and turn them towards Him.
19.Listen to God
Want to learn how to grow in faith?
It starts with listening to God and turning over the reins to him.
20.Stop gossiping
Number 20 on my list of personal goal examples is one I know I could still do better with but is so important because I know that working on why we choose to gossip has more to do with where we feel we are lacking than how we actually feel about the person on the other end of our words.
It’s a hard mirror to turn towards yourself but I can assure you that learning to change this will help you nourish your mind and building a relationship with God!
21.Start a bible study plan
Take reading a new verse each day one step further to strengthen your relationship with God by starting a bible study plan! There are numerous free bible study plans available on the internet or you can join my free 7-day Prayer Journal Challenge and get the convenience of a prayer journal prompt showing up in your inbox each day!
22.Join a prayer team
No matter where your journey in growing your faith is starting, it is never too early to join a prayer team (or create your own).
23. Improve your self-confidence
This might seem a little weird to you that I put improving your self confidence on my list of personal goal examples, but let me explain.
As I have become more intentional with increasing my faith, I have come to realize that self-doubt, lack of self confidence and any other type of self esteem symptom comes from the enemy; in fact the enemy is lurking around every corner and taking even the tiniest chance he has to destroy you.
How we feel about ourselves or talk to ourselves is a huge opportunity to either fuel ourselves with Jesus and His love or to accidentally let the enemy pry his way in and plant seeds of doubt.
As you set out to achieve your own personal goals, I want you to remember you are loved, you are worthy, you are enough!
